Studying Massage Therapy?

I have a friend who has been studying massage therapy in the United States for the past few months and she’s planning a trip to Thailand to study at the highly acclaimed Wat Po Massage School. While I am a HUGE fan of massage in general and Thai massage specifically, I can’t help but wonder how solid a career path massage is these days.

I have a massage chair at home and I know at least 4 other families with chairs in their homes, (and one guy who bought one for his office at work).  With the popularity of massage chairs on the rise, will expensive spa massage ever be obsolete?

Massage Chairs at Work

When employees are happier, they are more productive, have a better attitude at work and even call in sick less. Adding one or more massage chairs to a work environment and making them available to employees, free of charge, not only helps to improve employee attitude and attendance, but productivity and profits as well.

In fact, when Fortune magazine names the top 100 companies to work for in America, benefits such as the availability of a massage chair in the workplace are one of the main factors they consider.

Although I have personally never had such a great perk in my workplace, I can’t help but wonder if it’s really all it’s cracked up to be. What about long line or fighting over the chair? Is there a cue?

I would love to hear from readers of my blog… does your workplace have free massage? How’s it working out for everyone? Do you love it?

New Massage Chair Trick

I’ve had a massage chair for about 2 years now and I’ve lit incense and burned aromatherapy candles and well… tried the whole works really. Or so I thought!

A friend of mine recently sent me these herbal compresses from Thailand. Apparently they use them in Thailand during Thai Massage to help relax away the stress and strain of modern life.

Basically, you steam them and then gently massage them into your aching muscles.  But what I decided to try doing is just putting them on my arms and legs while I’m enjoying a relaxing massage in my massage recliner. I have to tell you, I don’t know if it was just the smell of the herbs or if the herbs themselves did it but I haven’t felt that relaxed and refreshed in a long time. I highly recommend it!

The Stress of Modern Life

The stress of modern life can be overwhelming. Many people turn to drugs or alcohol. Some people smoke or are addicted to caffeine or other uppers. Others take out their stress in abusive ways toward others.

I visited Thailand recently for a Yoga and meditation retreat and I saw not one but 17 Thai monks smoking and drinking whisky at various temples throughout the country! Now, I’m pretty sure that’s not allowed by the rules for Buddhist monks, so they must have been very, very stressed. (Apparently they haven’t been meditating or doing yoga!)

One of my favorite things about visiting Thailand is Thai massage. It’s like having yoga done TO you while you lie back and relax. I have to admit, however, it did hurt a couple of times when the massage therapist pulled a little too hard. I enjoyed my trip but I was also happy to return home to enjoy my massage chair in the privacy and comfort of home.

How Often Should You Get a Massage?

1.    Although most people know or have heard that massage therapy can offer a variety of health and wellness benefits.  What most folks don’t know, however, is that the key to really recognizing the full potential of those health benefits of massage is the frequency in which you receive a massage treatment.  For folks in these modern times, it can be difficult to schedule in a family dinner, which means most people don’t have time to get to the spa as often as is needed to really reap the benefits of massage.  Luckily, a home massage chair can bring the power of massage therapy into your own home to allow you to enjoy a massage whenever you have time.

Cleaning a Leather Massage Chair

For leather massage chairs, just as with any leather upholstery, proper care and maintenance is important to help ensure the look and longevity of your chair.  If at all possible, place your chair in a spot which will keep it out of direct sunlight.  Also keep is away from close contact to air conditioning and heat sources.  When cleaning your chair, avoid any cleaners which are abrasive including varnish, saddle soap, ammonia, and bleach.  With proper care and maintenance, your massage recliner or chair can provide you and your family the relaxing, comforting health and wellness benefits of massage in the privacy of your own home.

Health Benefits of Massage

Massage therapy can provide you with a variety of health benefits, including the reduction of pain, improved blood circulation, reduced stiffness and aches, lowers anxiety and stress, and even boosts immune system function.  Unfortunately, many of us don’t have the time, (or money) to get to the spa once or twice a week in order to enjoy these health and wellness benefits.  A massage chair can help bring the many health benefits of massage therapy to you, (and your family), in your own home.  And the best part of a massage recliner is that you never need to make an appointment or drive across town.

bubble tea

Bubble tea, (sometimes called “foam tea”), are sweetly flavored teas beverage first created in Taiwan. Bubble teas are usually of 2 distinct kinds: fruit-flavored teas, as well as milk tea. However, a few shops provide a hybrid fruit milk tea. Milk tea may use dairy products or non-dairy creamers. More healthy types are 100% smashed fruit shakes with pearl nuggets and personal ice cream smoothies made from nearby ice cream resources. Many United States bubble teas vendors market “milk smoothies”, which is much like bubble teas but doesn’t actually include any teas ingredients. A few small coffee shops, bookstores offer sweetener alternatives such as agave, honey, aspartame, and stevia.

As Bubble tea’s popularity in the West wanes a bit, blooming teas have quickly become the hottest new tea trend.

Can Massage Remove Cellulite?

These days, so many people are using massage therapy to help them unwind, reduce stress, as well as for a number of other health benefits. One of the more fascinating advantages of therapeutic massage I have observed recently may be using it to decrease the appearance of cellulite.

This technique necessitates the application of a cellulite reduction lotion to the problem area prior to the therapeutic massage after which using extended strokes then a rubbing motion to be able to assist break down the fat. This can be also completed in the massage chair, which is always ready, whenever you are.

Massage for Migraines?

Migraine headaches are not only extremely painful, but costly as well.  Migraines often represent not only medical costs for the sufferer but a loss of productivity for the employer as well.  Many folks who experience migraines head to the emergency room when the pain becomes unbearable, and ER visits get expensive very quickly.

Luckily, there may be another solution for migraines - massage!  There are a variety of pressure points throughout the body, (even on the feet!) which, when stimulated by massage, may be able to alleviate a migraine faster than medication.  People who have tried migraine targeting massages report almost instantaneous relief!

The power of massage really is amazing.  Today’s massage chairs offer folks a variety of options, often including acupressure massage functions.
